Ghostbusters Day 2024: 40 Years
Every year on June 8, fans from around the world celebrate the original release of the film GHOSTBUSTERS. The movie premiered on that date in 1984.
In 2024, the film celebrated 40 years of its legacy which now spans 5 cinematic movies, two cartoon series, numerous merchandising endeavors, thousands of fan franchises and several generations.
The day had two premiere events happening in North America on each coast.
In New York City, the Buffalo Ghostbusters organized a fan gathering at the iconic Hook and Ladder 8 in Tribeca. The event featured a fan made ECTO-1 (NJ) and a performance by the band Alessi, whose song was “Savin’ The Day” played during the third act’s parade scene.
In Culver City, California, the head honchos of Ghost Corps hosted a party on the Sony Studios lot. The event featured a screening of GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE with a prelude by Jason Reitman, an appearance by several Ghostbusters actor alumni such as Robin Shelby (Slimer, GHOSTBUSTERS 2) and several props that were featured in FROZEN EMPIRE.
With many new projects on the horizon such as new films and an animated series, there is a lot to look forward to after 40 years of a rich legacy.
